Pool, Tennis & Fitness
As a renter of #74, you will have full access to the pool, tennis, and fitness facilities.
Beach chairs and towels are available no charge from the Beach Hut. The Hut rents masks, snorkels, fins, and boogie boards, and it sells beverages and snacks. (Rates as of 6/7/12: fins + mask&snorkel $7/day, $25/week; mask&snorkel only $5/day, $15 week; fins only
$5/day, $15/week; boogie board $7/day, $24/week).
Inside unit #74 there is a supply of beach equipment that we and renters have left behind. We do not specifically maintain this equipment because the Hawaiian climate tends to destroy beach material quite rapidly, but we do replace items when we visit. Usually there seems to be a good supply of usable masks, fins, boogie boards, and children's toys like pails and shovels. We cannot guarantee, however, that any specific beach supplies will be available in the unit.
More Description of the Unit
We have completely remodeled the unit. It has two private bedrooms and bathrooms on the lower level. One bedroom has two twin beds. There is a converter in the closet that can turn the two twins into a single king. The other bedroom has a king size bed. Both have flat panel TVs with cable and plenty of closet and drawer space. The kitchen, dining room, and living room are on the upper level. There is an unobstructed ocean view from the upstairs and downstairs lanais, but the unit is set back enough from the main beach area for greater privacy and lower noise. The beach is a short walk (approx. 200 yards) over beautifully landscaped lawns. You will find toys, snorkels, reef shoes, and other items for your use in the hall closet. Free broadband internet service is provided.
We occupy the east end of the building. As a side unit, there are many more windows than a middle unit. There is no unit above or below us. The building consists of two 2BR units on each end and two 1BR units (one on top of the other) in between.
The unit is non-smoking
More Kiahuna Property Info
For more photos and information about the Kiahuna property, go to this Castle Resorts page and this Outrigger page. (None of the photos in these links are from our unit. Very few Kiahuna units have been remodeled to our standard. We advise avoiding units in the back of the Kiahuna property due to road noise.)
A number of excellent restaurants are within walking distance including Roy's, Keoki's, Casa Blanca, and the Plantation Gardens. There are many more restaurants in the Kiahuna shopping center where Roy's is located. Old Town Koloa with its shops and restaurants is just a few minutes away by car.
Check the internet for best car rental deals. All the car rental firms located at the airport are equally good although we recommend not using Advantage Rent A Car. We always select a rental car company whose cars are located at the airport. We have had good luck with Hotwire. Hotwire uses rental-car companies (such as Hertz, etc.) at the airport. Aloharents.com is also very good. Prices can get ridiculously high during peak occupancy periods such as Christmas so book early.
Have a look at the original Poipu Beach Hotel which is the property just to the east of the Kiahuna along the beach. Below is a brochure from the 1950s when an "upgraded" room was $22/night!
